Please forgive me for a picture heavy post but I'm really quite excited by it. This is the smallest piecing I've done and at times it felt like a real labour of love but I like it so much now it's done! Also it's the first quilt I've designed and I'm pleased with how it turned out.
I'll list the details for posterity:
Finished Size: 24 in x 24 in
Center star: 8 in x 8 in
First pieced boarder: 1 in wide
Second pieced boarder: 2 in wide
Third pieced boarder: 2 in wide
For the backing I used a nice chunk of this print from Joel Dewberry's line Bungalow
I quilted it by stitching in the ditch on most of the seams. This has the lovely benefit of showing the design of the quilt top on the back which I really like
This is my first medallion quilt and I have to say I don't think it will be my last. It's quite compelling adding borders and watching it grow. And there were so many borders I didn't get to try this time...
Medallion quilts are so popular now and yours is splendid!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think their popularity must be due to how versatile they are. There are just so many options!
DeleteLove medallion quilts and love minis so this is super!
ReplyDeleteMe too! They're both so much fun :-)
DeleteThanks!
This is absolutely gorgeous! It caught my eye in the line up right away:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! This comment made my day :-)
DeleteThis is a really really lovely little quilt! I think the colours and the design are fab. Great work and thank you for playing along with the Challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for hosting, Adrianne! It's been so much fun. And without your inspiration this little quilt would never have been born.
DeleteAmazing! The design and colours are perfect. Your mini has me crushing hard on Radiant Orchid (such wonderful fabric choices).
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! This challenge has definitely made me fall in love Radiant Orchid and challenged the way I think about combining fabrics and colours
DeleteVery nice. Such small borders. I am sure they were a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The inner and outer borders didn't take too long, the diamond border took considerably longer, but most time consuming was the cutting! So many tiny pieces!
DeleteBeautiful, and I love that it is small, makes you appreciate it even more!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Making this has definitely made me appreciate the work that goes into tiny piecing more.
DeleteHahaha I love your husband's name for the quilt. :) I love your mini take on the medallion quilt! There's so much to look at, I'd never get tired of staring at it. :D Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteOh my, so pretty, and so tiny, wow!! I love a good medallion quilt, and a tiny one, that's extra special :)
ReplyDeleteYou have a great eye for design and colours. I love the idea of a mini medallion.
